Magog — The Scythians

In this lesson, we continue our journey through the Table of Nations by examining Magog, one of the sons of Japheth listed in Genesis 10. While the precise identity of Magog cannot be established with complete certainty, the weight of the historical evidence points toward the Scythians, the great horsemen of the Eurasian Steppe.
Together, we’ll consider why many historians associate Magog with the Scythians, evaluate the evidence supporting that identification, and then step into one of the most fascinating cultures of the ancient world. Drawing upon Scripture, Assyrian records, the writings of Josephus and Herodotus, and remarkable archaeological discoveries from frozen Scythian burial mounds, we’ll explore what daily life was like among these nomadic peoples and how they fit into the world of the Bible.

About the Series
The Peoples of Scripture: Tracing the Table of Nations Through the Bible is a study of Genesis 10 that explores the historical, geographical, archaeological, and biblical background of the nations descended from Noah after the Flood. Rather than passing quickly over the names in the Table of Nations, this series seeks to understand who these peoples were, where they lived, how they lived, what traces they left behind, and where they appear throughout the biblical story.
