Who were the descendants of Gomer, the first son of Japheth? While Scripture mentions Gomer only briefly, ancient history preserves fascinating clues that may help us identify his descendants with the people known to history as the Cimmerians. In this lesson, we begin tracing one of the earliest post-Flood nations by examining the biblical text alongside ancient inscriptions, classical historians, archaeology, geography, and historical linguistics. Along the way, we also explore how historians responsibly evaluate evidence while remaining appropriately humble about what can—and cannot—be known with confidence.
